The Park Painter
Painting every South Carolina State Park and United States National Park
Hi! My name is Kristin, and I am an artist based in Columbia, South Carolina. I have a lofty goal of painting over 100 parks. In painting the landscapes that I love, I hope to give the glory to God who created them.

Shop prints from Kristin Holzer's painting of Croft State Park. Croft State Park is in the hills of beautiful upstate South Carolina. Croft is home to 20+ miles of mountain biking and equestrian trails, so I knew I wanted to paint some mountain bikers on these trails (me and my husband!). Add this art to your collection as you travel South Carolina! Part of the South Carolina State Park collection,

I was honored to be the artist in residence at Dreher Island State Park in May 2024, and this painting is the result of that residency! 2024 was the year of the mega broods of Cicadas, and Dreher Island was covered for them. I couldn’t resist painting a cicada perched upon this blooming bush on the shore of Lake Murray.

This painting of Arches National Park is part of my U.S. National Park Collection! I chose to paint the classic Double Arch to represent this beautiful park. You would have to be there in person to really understand the scale of this incredible geological feature. Even a painting doesn’t do it justice!

A fun zoo, beautiful avenue of oaks, and classic low country marshes all make this South Carolina State Park one of a kind. Charles Towne is just 15 minutes outside of Charleston, and provides an incredible look into the lives of the first people that settled in our beloved Charleston. I thought this beautiful avenue of oaks was just begging to be painted, so it was an easy choice to pick for the scene to paint!

A South Carolina State Park fan favorite: Table Rock State Park! Table Rock is in the upstate, nestled in the foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park’s namesake, Table Rock, is the key feature of this beautiful landscape. The hike to the top of Table Rock is a tough one, about 7 miles in total, but it is so rewarding. This view of Table Rock that I painted is from a trail that goes along Pinnacle Lake, and offers beautiful views of the mountain.

When my husband and I moved to Columbia, SC last fall, I was a little bummed because I would be two hours away from my beloved mountains. But after the peaceful evening walks and bike rides we’ve done on Columbia’s endless greenways, I sure am loving this city! This is at the beautiful Riverwalk Park underneath Gervais Street Bridge.

The Saluda Scenic River is a beautiful body of water on the west side of Columbia, SC. With class III rapids, scenic rocky outcrops, and spanish moss covered trees along the river’s edge, the Saluda offers a serene outdoor escape just minutes from the city.
I painted this en plein air in two different sessions. It was quite a challenge, since the spot I started the painting at was underwater the next two time I went back to finish the painting! Lesson Learned!
