Artist Bio

Kristin Holzer is an acrylic artist based in Columbia, South Carolina. She paints in a loose realistic style, and finds her inspiration by the beauty that surrounds her in God's creations, whether that is through nature, architecture, or people. Her passion is capturing memories and moments through painting, and sharing both the process and the results with others.

She has loved art since she was little, but decided to pursue art full time in 2021. In high school, an art teacher encouraged her to leave her comfort zone of pencil drawings, and start painting. Watercolor was her first experience in painting, and then she began painting with acrylics several years later and has found it to be her favorite medium. Acrylic painting allows her to paint what she sees quickly, allowing for a loose yet realistic style. She has also found a calling for commission work, and loves bringing client's visions to life in paint.

How I got started with art.

I’ve always loved to paint and draw. Like most artists, I started with pencils. But, (fun fact) I DESPISE drawing with pencils now, mainly because I don’t like the sound of pencils on drawing paper, and even worse, the sound of blending stumps!! I’m shivering thinking about it. Ew.

Anyways… I would constantly doodle in the margins of my notes during classes. I stand by my argument that drawing helps me focus on listening to things around me! I took basic art classes in high school, and my art teacher introduced me to watercolors and I immediately fell in love with it.

It wasn’t until maybe 2019 that I picked up painting with acrylics. This medium quickly became my favorite. I loved the vibrancy of the colors and the textures of the brush strokes. I plan to pick up watercolor again, but acrylic is my main focus for now!

My favorite things to paint were landscapes from my travels and pet portraits of my dogs and cat. I honestly didn’t paint a lot though. I had a hard time starting a project, but once I did, I couldn’t stop! However, I would go months without painting a single thing. A blank canvas is the most intimidating thing about painting to me, so it took a lot for my to make the first brush strokes of a subject I wanted to paint (I still struggle with this!).

I didn’t do commissions until late 2021, right before I started this business. But, now I am absolutely hooked on painting pets, homes, and memories for people. It means so much to me that people trust me to put things that are so important to them on canvas.
